Fiberglass form and foams is covered with ecru muslin. Metalic shaft on a cast iron tripod. A magnet designed to facilitate the pattern drafter's work was placed on the mannequin's head !
The ESMOD form was invented and registered by Alexis Lavigne in 1841, (along with the invention of the supple tape measure) and is the proud descendant of the dress form offered to Empress Eugenie by Alexis Lavigne. Today, ESMOD designs its own dummies which are used in the fashion industy and by all our ESMOD studients around the world.

180 years of fashion history!
On 5 November 1854, Alexis Lavigne registers a patent for the manufacture of mannequin busts moulded on plaster, five years after presenting a prototype that was noticed at the 1849 Industrial Exhibition.
In 1857, he offered the molding of his bust to the Empress Eugenie, whose forms were "exemplary" according to him. This excellent publicity made him the "empress's tailor", a very prestigious status for the time. Alexis realises that the evolution of fashion which tends towards the confection, moving away from the made-to-measure. He standardised his production of busts that he would make in several sizes, based on his years of study of the different conformations of the human body. And it is a success! Holder of his process, he then registered a new patent allowing tailors and seamstresses to make their own mannequin busts for their customers.
Today, Esmod Editions designs its own mannequin busts for women and men. Recognised for its robustness and durability, it equips all ESMOD students throughout the world. Since 2008, this bust has been following the measurements of the ready-to-wear, revised during the last European measurement campaign.
